Due to the potential health risks posed by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we regret to announce that this event has been cancelled. Instead, Cokie will walk an equivalent 25 miles in Charleston on May 17. Follow her new journey and leave words of encouragement and motivation on the Everyday Everest Facebook page.

Together we can reach the summit!

Your contribution to Everyday Everest will play a critical role in continuing cancer education and outreach at Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). This campaign is committed to funding a new mobile health unit for MUSC Hollings Cancer Center and providing increased access to treatment throughout the state of SC through outreach, education, and screenings. Ultimately our mission is to reduce the cancer burden in South Carolina through the highest quality patient care, research, professional education and cancer control programs with a focus on reaching underserved populations

MUSC Hollings Cancer Center Mobile Health Unit

Since 1998, MUSC Hollings Cancer Center’s Mobile Health Unit has provided cancer education, awareness, prevention and cancer screening services for adults living in remote communities in South Carolina who have difficulty accessing care.

The unit has a mammography room, exam room, lab draw area, patient waiting space, and dedicated space for patient counseling.  It is a vital provider of prevention and detection services in the communities it serves, where cancer prevention and detection services are especially hard to find.  In fact, about 80 percent of the patients who visit the unit say they would not have been able to access detection and care services, were it not for the unit.

The Mobile Health Unit is a lifeline for so many in our surrounding communities and must remain in top running condition – a constant challenge for any automotive vehicle. To ensure that we can continue providing these services and accommodate rising demand, we are now working to raise funds for a new unit. Our goal is to ensure that women in rural areas will have uninterrupted access to live-saving cancer screenings and preventative education. Your donation to Everyday Everest will make this possible.
